2 million yuan diamond ring stolen in Beijing

A 3-carat diamond ring worth nearly 2.2 million yuan was stolen by a foreign man from a Tiffany's jewelry store at the Malls at Oriental Plaza in Beijing on Aug. 27.

On Aug. 30, a netizen posted a thread on a Web site saying that "a diamond ring worth more than 2.1 million yuan was stolen at the Malls at Oriental Plaza on Wangfujing Avenue," which led to hot discussions.

The netizen said a foreign man visited the jewelry store many times to see the diamond ring and stealthily substituted it the last time when he was accompanied by a woman to try it on.

According to a notice from the local police station, there was a robbery at the Tiffany's store on 9 a.m. of Aug. 27 when a foreign man stolen a 3-carat diamond ring worth nearly 2.2 million yuan. The clerk in shop chased after the man but failed to catch him. The shop owner then called the police.

The Tiffany's jewelry store was located on the first floor of the shopping mall. The store is a street shop with doors inside and outside. There were four shop assistants at night after the stolen affair and all gave no comment to any reporters.

It is reported that the investigation of the case is still underway.

It is known that the price for a diamond ring mainly depends on its purity, craftsmanship and brand. The price can vary from several thousand yuan to more than 10 million yuan.

According to reports, the diamond ring worn by Victoria Beckham, the wife of the renowned soccer star David Beckham, was worth 3 million euros.
