The tenth National Youth Violin Contest has taken place in Qingdao. The contest, organized by the Ministry of Culture, drew art students from music colleges and middle schools across the country.
Wang Wendi, from middle school of the Central Conservatory of Music walked away with the first place in the Teenage Group. But the third place for that group - as well as the first, fifth and sixth places in the "Youth Group" were left vacant.
Judges said this contest emphasizes contestants' imagination and individuality, rather than focusing strictly on technique. They hope this can drive Chinese violinists away from an over-emphasis on skill over passion.
