There are several issues you should know about. First is the level of steel imports that this government has allowed. Not only does the bankruptcy of 19 steel companies in the past three years affect their employees, but all the people who work in the steel-dependent industries around them. Because of several policies such as the North American Free Trade Agreement, the U.S. manufacturing base has been depleted. Service jobs, for the most part, do not pay enough to raise a family. Over the past 225 years, ours has become a government for the wealthy people. Numerous manufacturing sectors have asked for help and have not received any. Even without a steel crisis, the cost of doing business has been significantly increased by the high cost of natural gas and gasoline. Someone must think the American people are idiots to believe that the cost to produce gasoline has risen so much to justify these prices while the oil companies are making record profits. America was founded for reasons such as taxation without representation. We may have representation in the government, but it does not look out for the interests of the middle class.
