Prevention of COVID-19 COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a new type of coronavirus that can be spread from person to person. Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses. There are several known coronaviruses that infect people and usually only cause mild respiratory (呼吸的) diseases, such as the common cold. However, at least two previously identified coronaviruses have been serious — the SARS coronavirus and the MERS coronavirus. Signs and symptoms of COVID-19 usually include fever, cough, and breathing difficulties. Currently, the best way to prevent infection is to avoid being exposed to this virus. Doctors always recommend taking precautions every day to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including: ▲Wear a mask when you are around other people or pets and before you enter a healthcare provider’s office. ▲Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing (打喷嚏). ▲If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer (消毒杀菌剂) with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are dirty. ▲Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. ▲Avoid close contact with people who are sick. ▲Stay home when you are sick and call doctors immediately. ▲Cough or sneeze into a tissue, then throw the tissue in the rubbish bin. ▲Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray (喷剂) or wipe.
