LESS IS MORE 肖像摄影布局中的“少而精”

5月2日意大利摄影师罗伯特的肖像网课第三程。

On May 2nd , we hold the 3rd workshop of Portray journey, with Italian photographer Roberto BRESSAN.

罗伯特喜欢这张作品中读书人的专注,喜欢将鞋子囊括在构图中,传达给观众这个模特的专注及身份信息。

Roberto: I like the concentration of the person, her shoes included in the photo, which helps to deliver the message of her identity and her inner status.

他指出远处两个人的存在会干扰观众的视线,因为我们一般是从上到下,从左到右地去观看一个图像,我们会先注意到这两个远方的人,然后才注意到主角。我们的视角固然会主要关注在这个读书人上,但依旧会被远方的2个人所干扰。

“What disturbs me is the 2 persons in the background. Our eyes search the information on the image from top to down, from left to right. Even we find the model meaningful, but the eyes continue to be distracted by the 2 persons faraway.”

在取景时候,有意识地避免远处的2个人,更集中放大模特。

Avoid to take the 2 persons, concentrate more on the subject.

通过主人公凳子前方,道路形成的引导线,自然而然地把观众的视角锁定到,摄影师想让观众看到的内容:鞋子。视线到此无路遁逃,就会在主人公和鞋子这些摄影师想让我们看到的,对于主题有意义的元素里徘徊、集中。

The line in front of the model, guides our eyes to see the pair of shoes, and lock our eyes at the corner of the photo. In this way, our attention is focus on what the photographer wants us to see.

Susan 反馈:

我在拍摄时候,想借用远方的两个人来表达这个尼姑与众不同,无论外界多么嘈杂,她都可以静心读书。听完点评,我意识到,太多想要表达的信息反而影响关键信息的传达。

Feedback from Susan:

I wanted to use the 2 faraway persons to contrast with the nun who was concentrated despite of noise. After Roberto’s comments, I realized too many messages will distract the attention.

Roberto:

我喜欢这幅照片所传达的意境,打坐女子所散发的宁静。如果说可以有所改进的话,我会说,后面大幅画面的窗子会扰乱观众视线的集中,女子的头顶尚有很多的富裕空间,但脚下却没有足够的空间。

I love the serenity transmitted from the meditating woman.If anything I suggest to improve: the big size window disturbs the attention; too much room above the head, and too less room below the feet.

她打坐的姿势对于传达宁静的信息很重要,完整地展现她的身体,有助于传达稳定感。所以完整保留她的坐姿就成为在拍摄时候取景的依据。

Her stance contributes to the message of serenity, to keep the whole body, including the feet make sens to the photo. That’s the criteria to concentrate the attention on the person.

如果是我,我会这样拍:避免大幅窗子,将女子放大,更拉近到观众,头顶和脚下均保留一定的空间。

I would take the photo in this way: avoid the window, bring the woman closer to us, and hold some space above the head and below the feet.

摄影师还可以在拍摄的时候通过在相机中设置参数,实现本修改中的效果:将光线集中到女子身上,将身后的背景变暗淡,来更突出被拍照的主人公。

By using a different camera setting, photographer can achieve the same result at the shot, as this modified version: use the light to highlight the model, and make the background darker.

Roberto:

喜欢这个布局、女孩的美丽、和对背景的处理。

I like the composition, and the beauty expressed on the face of the girl, and how you handled the background.

困惑是,我的眼睛会停留在女孩的脸上、眼睛上,我不会很容易注意到照片下方女孩的手上。

What is confusing is that my eyes will only focus on the face, and eyes of the girl, not on her hands.

背景的颜色和女孩的肤色非常接近,会干扰我的视线集中,并形成这个女孩的脸比较扁平。

The bright background color is very similar to the girl, disturbs my attention, and makes her also flat.

在拍摄的时候,可以把重点只保留一个:突出女孩的脸和眼睛,舍弃手的部分。

Keep only one focus: face, don’t shoot the hands.

摄影师还可以在拍摄的时候通过在相机中的参数设置,实现本修改中的效果:将背景的颜色变暗淡,把明亮集中在女孩的脸上,一方面突出想表达的重点,一方面让女孩脱颖而出,更立体。

Photographer can also use the different camera setting to achieve more contrast as the result of the modified version: Make darker the background, in order to highlight the girl, to give more importance to her, and to make her in 3 D dimension.

Less is more 少而精。

拍摄主体和背景之间的关系

The functional relationship between the subject and the background.

“背景要起到烘托主体,帮助观众更好理解主体的作用。

The background is functional, contributes to make the subject understandable.

借用线条引导观众的视线集中到摄影师想要表达的主体上。

The guide line need to facilitate the attention to focus on the subject.

无用的元素会分散注意力。

The useless elements distract the attention.

拍摄出的照片越简洁,传达的信息越有力。

More  simple the photography is, stronger the message is.

通过遵循三分之一、黄金分割等布局规则,我们赋予图像以有意义的信息。

Respecting some composition rules, we give to the image the valuable meaning. 


罗伯特说:这就是在我每次举起相机拍摄时候,头脑中闪过的基本原则。

Roberto :when I am shooting the photo, this concept always comes to my mind.

罗伯特在摄影布局这张图片时,重点突出模特眺望深思的眼睛,右边的窗户起到一个背景资料的作用,创造遐想的空间:她在看些什么?取景时保留窗户最右边的黑框,把观众的视线局限性地卡在这个框中:到这里就没有可看的了,又回来关注模特本身。

Roberto sets the focus on the eyes of the model, who is watching far, and in deep reflexion. The window is functional background, creates the space for imagination: what she is watching? And he keeps the black frame of the window in the background, to limit our eyes; beyond this line, nothing more to see, so our attention comes back to see the model.

接下来的2张图片,可以看到摄影师对三分之一原则和黄金分割原则的遵守。

In next two photos, you will see his respect shown to composition rules.

罗伯特:在拍摄这张图片时,我借用窗户在墙上的阴影,制造了一条引导线,观众在看到这条深色的阴影线的时候,就会停止搜索,将视线返回集中到更明亮的地方,即摄影师想让观众关注的主体:模特身上。

Roberto: When I shoot this photo, I use the shadow on the wall, projected from the window, to create the guideline. Your eyes will be blocked by this dark line, and come back to search brighter information:what I want you to see- the model.

无论彩色还是黑白,使用同样的规则,得到同样的效果,传达的信息一样.

It’s no matter, black & white or colorful photography, the concept is the same, to get the same result, to deliver the same message.

Roberto will set the model, take the photo on site, and project immediately on the scree, to show the participants.
