动词短语是由动词和介词、副词、名词等构成的，在句中作谓语。

277.pay off还清

用法：pay off后一般接表示钱款、贷款的名词。

例句：It may take thirty years for them to pay off the mortgage. (2013年12月四级)

他们可能要过三十年才能把房贷还清。

结构分析：It是形式主语，may take是谓语， thirty years是宾语，for them to pay off the mortgage是真正的主语，其中for them是逻辑主语。

278.pay back偿还

用法：pay back还可以表示“报复”，其后可以接宾语，也可以不接宾语。

例句：They are often unable to pay back in time.

他们往往无法及时偿还。

279.point out指出

用法：point out可以后接表示人或物的宾语，也可以后接that从句。

例句：He wants to point out mistakes that young artists commonly make. (托福)

他想指出年轻艺术家们通常会犯的错误。

280.pull down拆毁

用法：pull down也可以表示“把……拉下，使身体虚弱”，其后的宾语如果是人称代词，要放在down的前面。

例句：In ancient times, it was illegal to pull down the temple.

在古代，拆毁寺庙是违法的。
