这个词最常见的词性是形容词，比如“平静的湖面”，就可以表达为“the calm surface of the lake”。

但是，当它用作动词时也非常实用，五星级词组calm down，表达“平静下来、冷静下来”。

当然，这里的down是副词，也就意味着calm和down可以分开，将宾语放到中间。
