Finns refer to their country as 'Suomi', meaning lake and swamp in English. Finland covers an area of 338,000 square kilometers with a coastline of 1,100 kilometers. It has about 179, 000 islands and 188,000 lakes. Hence, it is dubbed as 'the Country of a Thousand Lakes'.
