古诗英译：逢雪宿芙蓉山主人 (唐·刘长卿)

Lodging after being stranded by snow

日暮苍山远，天寒白屋贫。

柴门闻犬吠，风雪夜归人。

Looming-up darkness after sunset

blurs distant mountains,

like being pushed farther back.

In the bitterness of the cold,

the thatched hut stands alone

looking more shabby and miserable. 

With sudden barking at the door heard,

coming home at night must be the owner,

wrapped up in the stormy snow.

“译”后记：

1、汉语古诗词拿来的“英译”？“解释”得比较强的英语罢了！

2、中文是“单音节”，“意合”语言，结合格律诗要求，讲究(也可以获得)语言表达上的“能省则省”，言简意赅，短小精悍，朗朗上口，也讲究“诗在诗外”的意境效果。

英语也是“多音节”，“形合”语言。“多音节”注定“英诗”(if any at all)根本无法达到汉语古诗词大众“一音顶千音”的语言效果，同时，英语也根本不会去追求这种汉语才会有的效果。它是直白的，讲究语言“形合”的。可惜追求汉语古诗词的那种“言简意赅”能很好的表现一首“英诗”？

I doubt it.

3、、还是不要“妄想”英译什么汉语古诗词了，它是根本不可译的，也更不要拿自己的“英译”去比肩汉语古诗词。恐怕“译”得再好的汉语古诗词，连把古诗词翻译成现代汉语的“释义”都不如。的确，所有的所谓“古诗词英译”，艺术价值恐怕连它的现代汉语“翻译版”都不如。

能想明白这个浅显的道理就好：不过是用英语“解释解释”“那首汉语古诗词大概什么意思”而已，

and nothing more!
