外形特征 Description

体呈长纺锤形而稍纵扁；眼大而位于头中央背缘，眼间隔狭窄;吻长而吻端钝；口裂小而开于吻端，呈水平位，下颔较上颔稍长，上唇厚，舌前端圆；两颔各具齿4列 而外列齿较大；左右鳃膜附着于喉部；左右腹鳍连合而呈吸盘；体侧被大型而易脱落栉鳞；体呈半透明；体侧蛋黄侧而密布以褐色点，尾柄具长椭圆斑。最大长度7.5cm。

栖所生态 Ecology

生活在0-25米海域，栖息在礁沙混合区或礁岩外围的砂砾地上。

独行或小群活动，杂食性，以有机碎屑或小型无脊椎动物为食。是底栖产卵者。

地理分布 Distribution

分布在印度-西太平洋热带海域。台湾分布于南部、东部、澎湖、小琉球、绿岛、东沙及南沙海域。

保护状况 Conservation status

短棘纺锤虾虎鱼分布广泛，可在本地大量繁殖。目前还没有已知的主要威胁。因此，此物种被列为最不关注。
