Reading：     

I wanted to live outside London and I was looking for a flat in Richmond. The estate agent took me to see one. The flat was opposite a church, near Richmond Park. It was above a Chinese restaurant. We stood on the pavement in front of the restaurant. It was raining so I held a newspaper over my head. The entrance to the flat was round the side of the restaurant. I asked the agent where I could park my car. He said there was a parking place behind the restaurant. 'Now, would you like to see inside the flat?’ he asked me.

I．Outside, inside, behind, in front of, above, over, near, round, opposite

1．Above和over通常是同义词，意思是 ' higher than’.

The flat was above (或over) a restaurant.

但是over有时有: ' covering’.的意思。

I held a newspaper over my head.

2．用inside而不用in，强调在一个封闭空间的内部

A flat in Richmond. Would you like to see inside the flat ?

II.． Among, between, under, below, on top of, next to, beside, by

Reading：

There were four rooms in the flat. The bathroom was between the bedroom and the living room. The kitchen was next to the living room. In the living room there was table and two chairs under an old sheet. 'All included in the price!’ the agent said. The flat was by the Thames, on top of a hill, and there was a lovely view. I stood beside the estate agent at the living room window. I could see Richmond Park below us. There were some deer among the trees in the park. And I could see the river between the trees. Suddenly we heard a loud crash below us and people shouting in Chinese. 'Have you got any other flats?’ I said.

1.Below 和under常常同义。意思是： ' lower than’ .

The restaurant kitchen was below (或 under) the living room

用Below而不用 under，表示'lower than’时，是指不一定是directly under

I could see the park below us. （不是垂直的下面）

Under 可以表达' covered by’

There was a table under an old sheet.（桌布盖着它）

2.Among 和between的意思不一样。当把事物当作独立对象看待时，（即指两者之间或两两之间）， 用between 。

I could see the river between the trees.

（她可以通过一棵树和另一棵树之间的空间看到河）

Among 表示在一群人或事之中，不当把这人或事当作独立对象看待。

There were some deer among the trees.

（鹿在树的中间）

3.by, next to, beside 都是' very close to’的意思。试比较；

The flat was by the Thames.（离河很近）

The flat was near the Thames. （离河近，但比by远）
