2020年10月，16岁的Kaylea Titford被发现死在了自己的床上。 Kaylea Titford, 16, was found dead in her bed at the family home in Newtown, Powys in October 2020. 她的死因被判断为：因肥胖及其并发症而引起的大面积溃疡、炎症以及感染。 A medical cause of death was given as 'inflammation and infection in extensive areas of ulceration arising from obesity'.
Kaylea患有的先天脊柱裂，自出生以来就无法行动，一直被各种疾病折磨着。 Kaylea, who had spina bifida, suffered 'multiple medical issues' throughout her life and was immobile.
经调查，警方怀疑Kaylea并非自然死亡，而是父母故意将她喂肥，导致了她的离世。 “As such those investigations give me reason to suspect that Kaleigh's death may be unnatural, in that a natural cause of death may be considered unnatural where there is some culpable human involvement or contribution to that death.”
在法庭上，母亲承认违背了对残疾女儿的照顾义务。 She admitted breaching the care of duty for her disabled daughter.
在可以预见女儿的健康状况会受到影响的情况下，增加了孩子的死亡风险。 It was 'reasonably foreseeable' that it gave rise to a serious and obvious risk of death.
法庭对女孩父母“过失杀人”的裁决，也引发了不小的争议。
The mother has admitted the manslaughter of her daughter. 母亲承认了因过失杀人害死她的女儿。
有网友说，“这位母亲认罪可能只是感到内疚不已。 The mom probably feels ridden by guilt.
这个可怜的女孩生来就有残疾，需要坐在轮椅上。唯一可能给她带来快乐的东西是食物，而她的母亲无法狠下心来拒绝。 This poor girl was born with a disability which required her being in a wheelchair. The only thing that may have brought her any happiness was food, and her mother didn't have the fortitude to deny her.
喂养孩子是一种母性本能。 It's a maternal instinct to feed a child.
也有网友反驳说，你们看到她的体型了吗？这就是在虐待儿童。 Did you see the size of her? That’s child abuse.
家长本来应该调控她的饮食，或者给她吃一些健康的食物。 They could have regulated her meals or given her healthy food to eat.
享受进食到这个程度的话，就是纯粹的暴饮暴食了! Enjoyment from eating to that extent is pure gluttony!
