Kwok Gallery，新加坡 出版 《Oriental Art》，43期第4號，1997/8年，封面作品（印刷錯誤，封面圖片翻轉） 《Oriental Art》，43期第4號，1997/8年 本品比例勻稱，造型獨特，身體比例協調，肌肉線條凸起，身姿矯健。通體施彩，軀幹與四肢施白釉，身體施以黃、褐、綠彩，色彩交融，極為富麗。馬首額毛刻劃自然，頸部鬃毛整齊挺立，尾巴上捲。馬頭戴絡頭，身披攀胸和鞦帶，上面以綠釉點飾杏葉形飾物，非常典型。馬通體施黃褐色釉，釉色通體均勻。三彩馬前足直立，後足微曲，立於長方形板面，俯首往左前足傾注，嘴巴微張露齒，頓首靜立，圓目，雙耳後貼，體型強壯彪悍，挺拔有力的四條腿刻畫得尤其生動，頗具韓干畫馬之風。 唐 三彩駿馬 Sold for HK$3,052,000 inc. premium Provenance:

This powerfully modelled horse, featuring a well-preserved sancai glaze and lavish ornaments, embodies the spirit and strength of this valorous animal while showcasing the technical excellence and stylistic sophistication of pottery making during the peak of the Tang dynasty. It is also extremely rare to find a sancai horse of this size and with the original 'fire pearl' in place.
See a related pottery horse of similar size and with comparable decorative features on the trappings and saddle cloth, in the Tokyo National Museum, illustrated in Oriental Ceramics: The World's Great Collections, vol.1, Tokyo, 1982, pl.64. Another similar Tang dynasty example with elaborate trappings on the rump, was exhibited in The Exhibition of Chinese Ceramic Figures, The Oriental Ceramic Society, 8 April to 21 June 1947, cat no.61, later sold at Christie's New York, 13 September 2019, lot 840.
Compare a sancai-glazed pottery figure of a horse of similar size, Tang dynasty, sold at Christie's New York, 22 March 1999, lot 246. Compare another sancai horse decorated with closely related green-glazed foliate medallions, sold at Sotheby's London, 3 November 2021, lot 104.
The result of Oxford Authentication Ltd. thermoluminescence test no. C299k64 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
